So what are about all this 8 competences? – For example dealing with the management of the Youth Initiative or an event organization as a special project – you will gain a lot out of it, like
planning skills,
time management,
team communication and coordination
conflict management etc.
The learning outcomes will have a strong impact on your personal and professional competences. Therefore, they should be recognized as such by your personal and professional environment according to the principle – ‘it’s not important where you learnt it, it’s important what you can do’! For a better understanding I will give some examples for each competence.
1. Communication in the mother tongue – (i.) - To learn new words and expressions in your mother tongue, even if you are in a new country and don’t use your mother tongue so often, the new activities, the environment will push you to think and to use new expressions in your language.
(ii.) - Learning different ways to present in the mother tongue.
(iii.) - And still leaving abroad will help you to understand more about your language, by comparing with other foreign languages, by studying it for teaching other your language and many other situations.
2. Communication in a foreign language –
(i.) - Learning new words/expressions.
(ii.) - Becoming more confident about speaking a foreign language.
(iii.) - Learning to understand better different accents.
3. Mathematical competence and basic competences in science and technology –
(i.)-Assessing local needs.
(ii.) - financial management.
(iii.) - Presenting the project in form of numbers, charts, models etc.
(iv.) - Looking and interpretation of the different data.
(v.) - Evaluating the outcomes of the project.
(vi.) - Solving problems.
(vii.) - Dealing with any specific themes linked with science or technology.
4. Digital competence – (i.) - Using internet for research about youth initiative, project details etc.
(ii.) - Filling an electronic application form for a project.
(iii.) - Learning to use new computer apps.
(iv.) - Using different technologies such as digital camera, microphones and other IT, for your work.
5. Learning to learn – (i.) - Learning new things about you as a learner – what is your learning style. To understand your stronger and weaker sides.
(ii.) - Learning how to set individual aims and objectives for yourself.
6. Social and civic competences – (i.) - working with people that are excluded, have fewer opportunities.
(ii.) - Being active as a citizen at the local level – trying to solve some local problems, answer some needs of the people leaving around.
(iii.) - Being a part of a team, building trust.
(iv.) - Work on voluntary basis for your local community.
7. Sense of initiative and entrepreneurship – (i.) - Turning a project into action.
(ii.) - To be able to manage an activity and a group.
(iii.) - To being able to use in an optimal way human resources and talents, by understanding their stronger points, and by motivating them.
(iv.) - To be creative and innovative in realizing project’s activities.
8. Youth initiative and cultural awareness and expression –
(i.) - Learning more about your own culture.
(ii.) - Participating in or organizing festivals, exhibitions, public debates, youth clubs.
(iii.) - Involving local artists in your activities.
(iv.) - Learning about other cultures and sharing your culture with the local community.
(v.) - Using artistic methods in order to realize your ideas and tasks.

And for everyone there might be different, as we all are having different personalities, learning styles, approaches and even different projects. But, knowing from the beginning what this 8 competences are about it will give you ideas and support in setting your learning goals.
